While enjoying a successful career as an actor in Canada, Jhene began writing poetry when living in the "red light," district of Toronto. The poetry evolved into the CD, "Dog in the Manger." In "Dog in the Manger," Erwin combines the reality of the people and events that she witnessed at that time, with her own personal experiences. Part reality, partfiction, part autobiography Erwin creates an intense world inhabited by undeniable characters whose primary struggle is to find their own sense of humanity and dignity.
Her sophmore CD "Vaudeville 2040," cronicals the pain of isolation and the timeless need for human connection. "Vaudeville 2040," marks a signifigant evolution in the style of Jhene's work. While remaining loyal to her poetic roots her rich melodic hooks, soaring vocals and heart pounding beats, create an expansive, stirring landscape of sound. Moving from trip hop, to dance, to trance, Jhene's layered, haunting sound will leave your blood pumping.
Described as a combination of Portishead, Bjork and massive Attack, with lyrics influenced by Leonard Cohen , and Patty Smith. the response to Erwin’s work has been phenomenal.
The clubs she has performed at include, LA's Temple Bar, The Knitting Factory’s Alterknit Lounge, Fais Do Do, The Derby, The Joint, zen, The Cat Club, Genghis Cohen, The Crooked Bar, and The Cameron House in Toronto.
