Jhene’s career in the entertainment industry began as an actor starring in various films and television series. Some of her credits include, the lead in the feature film “The Fishing Trip,” that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. For “The Fishing Trip,” Jhene’s performance received glowing reviews in numerous publications including “Variety”, “CineAction Magazine,” and “The Toronto Star.” Most recently she appeared as "Joanna," on the USA Network's television series, "Psych." She played the role of “Snyder,” in independent feature film, “The Spy and the Sparrow,” starring Eric Roberts, and David Rashe, set for release in 2009. In the Family Channel’s ratings hit M.O.W., “Night of the Twisters,” she was a supporting lead. For Janice Gamble’s story on CBC’s “The Scales of Justice, ” Jhene held the title role portraying the first woman in Canada to be convicted of first-degree murder. She was also a series regular on New Line television’s “Nancy Drew,” and Epitome Picture’s, “Liberty Street,” which was a sequel to “Degrassi Jr. High.” While working as an actor Jhene began writing poetry. After becoming published in the Los Angeles based "Onyx Anthology of Spoken Word," her poetry evolved into the CD, "Dog in the Manger." Originaly recorded under a demo deal with EMI London, "Dog in the Manger," combines events that she witnessed while living in the "red light," district of Toronto, with her own personal experiences. Part reality, partfiction, part autobiography Erwin creates an intense world inhabited by undeniable characters whose primary struggle is to find their own sense of humanity and dignity. Her sophmore CD "Vaudeville 2040," cronicals the pain of isolation and the timeless need for human connection. The post apocalyptic world of "Vaudeville 2040," marks a signifigant evolution in the style of Jhene's work. While remaining loyal to her poetic roots her rich melodic hooks, soaring vocals and heart pounding beats, create an expansive, stirring landscape of sound. Moving from trip hop, to dance, to trance, Jhene's layered, haunting sound will leave your blood pumping. Described as a combination of Portishead, Bjork and massive Attack, with lyrics influenced by Leonard Cohen , and Patty Smith, the response to Erwin’s work has been phenomenal. The clubs she has performed at include, LA's Temple Bar, The Knitting Factory’s Alterknit Lounge, Fais Do Do, The Derby, The Joint, Zen, The Cat Club, Genghis Cohen, The Crooked Bar, and Toronto's, The Cameron House. |
